Flathead Rivers Alliance

Board Member

Flathead Rivers Alliance seeks 2 to 3 Board Members. We have identified several archetypes (or board member superpowers: Educator, Campaigner, Tycoon, Connector) that help guide our program offerings, community engagement, and financial sustainability. You may identify with more than one archetype. As with any small nonprofit, all board members collaborate across these realms. However, we also encourage board members to take a leading role in the area that best matches their experience, personality, and community connections.

Flathead Rivers Alliance Board of Directors is the governing body, overseeing vision, mission, and internal operations of the organization. Flathead Rivers Alliance Board members are elected to serve a staggered term of either two and three years; and shall serve until his/her successor is elected. Board members volunteer 5-10 hours/month and must attend 10 of 12 board meetings per year. Board members hold overall fiscal and managerial oversight responsibility for Flathead Rivers Alliance. They are charged with the supervision and oversight of Flathead Rivers Alliance mission. They are responsible for making decisions, delegating work, and assuring decisions are carried out in the manner intended. Ultimately, board members serve as ambassadors for Flathead Rivers Alliance mission, inside and outside of organizational commitments.

Glacier Art Museum

Arts in the Park Volunteer

Arts in the Park is the Flathead Valley’s longest running, premier arts, crafts and music festival held on July 9-12 in Kalispell’s historic downtown Depot Park. Visitors may stroll through the festivals’ 80+ juried artists & artisans booths from around the country offering one-of a kind, quality handmade paintings, jewelry, ceramics, housewares, and more for sale. Live music, a beer & wine garden with local beverages, & local food trucks round out the event. All proceeds raised benefit the Glacier Art Museum’s educational programs and exhibitions!

Volunteering can look like many different things, depending on what shift you work and what abilities you have. It may mean assisting in event setup and teardown, checking in visitors at event entrances and receiving payment for tickets as a Gate Greeter, serving at the beer & wine garden, helping organize vendor booth locations, distributing event maps to guests, or working the Museum Information Booth. There is something for everyone who is willing to help! Volunteers serve a 2+ hour shift over the course of the 3-day weekend event.

Whitefish Legacy Partners

Whitefish Trail Field Trip Volunteer

Whitefish Legacy Partners (WLP) hosts local public schools on the Whitefish Trail from March-May and September-November. If you love leading kids ages kindergarten-6th grade and like working outside, this could be a great fit for you!

Although there are no required teaching skills, you must be comfortable independently leading groups of up to 25 kids (teachers and parent chaperones will also be present to manage the group, but you will be running the station activity). You are more than welcome to shadow a field trip to get a feel for how they run! WLP will provide all teaching tools and curriculum to make you feel comfortable leading your stations. WLP’s Director of Outdoor Education will always be on the trail with you, and they will be leading their own group independently. Outdoor education activities might include: animal track i.d., skulls & scat, tree i.d., hiking, scavenger hunts, building shelters, nature bracelets, etc.

Volunteer requirements can vary from 1 field trip a season to however many you’d like to be a part of (WLP hosts ~15 trips each spring and fall). Field trips typically take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 9am-1pm at Lion Mountain Trailhead.

Thank you for your support in getting our local kids outside learning and exploring their local lands!
