Flathead Valley nonprofit organizations are invited to apply for Whitefish Community Foundation’s 2026 Great Fish Community Challenge. Applications are due May 21, and selected organizations will be notified in June. Nonprofits are eligible to participate if they took part in the 2025 Great Fish Community Challenge or attended an information session in January.

The Great Fish Community Challenge is a charitable giving campaign running August 11 through September 11. During this time, donors can support multiple Flathead Valley nonprofits with a single transaction. At the conclusion of the campaign, Whitefish Community Foundation awards a percentage match on $25,000 raised by each participating organization. This match is made possible by the Foundation’s Circle of Giving donors and those who contribute to the Great Fish Match Fund.

Since its launch in 2015, the Great Fish Community Challenge has raised more than $43 million for over 100 Flathead Valley nonprofits. In 2025 alone, the campaign generated $8 million for 85 organizations.

“We’re inspired by the continued momentum of the Great Fish Community Challenge,” said Whitefish Community Foundation President and CEO Alan Davis. “The growing participation from nonprofits and donors alike speaks to the deep commitment we have to making the Flathead Valley thrive.”

There is no cost for nonprofits to participate. Whitefish Community Foundation underwrites the campaign with support from title sponsor BNSF and additional sponsors, including First Interstate Bank, JCCS, Park Side Credit Union, Glacier Bank, Glacier Guides and Montana Raft, Three Rivers Bank, Summit Beverage, Whitefish Credit Union, Harris Financial, Stockman Bank, and Iron Horse Foundation.

Throughout the campaign, Whitefish Community Foundation will also award incentive grants to participating nonprofits. Donors can help their favorite organizations win grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.
